Artist's Comments

Posting this series as one deviation so it won't take up so much of my gallery. I tried myself as a sports photographer at a karate - tournament...

edit: the pictures served their purpose, I got the comission from a big Taekwondo-Club that I wanted after showing these to the coach :w00t!: I had shot them as practice and also to demonstrate that I can take sport-pictures, as my portfolio had nothing like this in it... I'm very much looking forward to the photo-shoot(s) for the club, check my page for an updaye and results as things progress...

Hm. This intrugues me because I have a boyfriend in karate. He's a late-stage brown belt...working toward black. I like the black and white for this. It emphasizes the uniforms. The athletes have wonderful expressions and movement as well. You can see their passion.

I like this. It's nice how you seperate the karate people from the background. They are white and the background is dark. How did you do that?

In photoshop: I took a snapshot, then changed the image brightness to very dark, then used the history brush to re-illuminate the people, starting with 100% density on the person down to 10% to make a smooth transition.

Very smart. I must try that when I get photoshop. Thanks for the advice.

Quality stuff, its great to see some images of people who arent posing for the camera, their facial expressions are brilliant aswell as the lighting and overall atmosphere.
Well done
